Pendant Lights
Replacing the humble plastic cable pendant and incandescent light bulb in a room has got be high on the agenda of the style conscious home owner. There is a wide variety of hanging ceiling pendent lights to choose from.
Houses with tall ceilings lend themselves to grand vintage lights such as hanging multi arm pendants, chandeliers and candelabra, these more traditional homes favour antique brass and tiffany finishes. Whilst these large lights can be dramatic statement pieces, a low hanging chandelier has become a popular choice of fitting over dining tables as interior designers have promoted the use of red black and crystal glass finishes to provide a modern design twist.
Modern homes demand a contemporary finish in chrome or metal to the pendent light. A further important design consideration is the type of light source, halogen lamps provide a crisp focus light, whilst a traditional filament lamp is softer and used to best effect with a lamp shade or crystal diffusers. Low energy fittings use fluorescent lamps and a wide range of designs are available with modern styling. The amount of light output is also a key aspect to give thought to, and 3 arm pendent can be used to replace single pendant fixture, with the added benefit of no extra wiring
Lighting design for a multi -purpose room such as a kitchen requires a little more thought, and the use of multiple lighting fixtures, for example direction spot lighting may be required for task lighting, and a low hanging pendent light over the dining table to create a more intimate effect.
Most rooms have a central ceiling pendant light as the primary lighting source and makes changing the light fitting a simple exercise.
